Students, graduate students and employees of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI are invited to listen to a course of lectures by Professor of the Ontario Tech University (Canada) Igor Pioro on the topic "Innovative Nuclear Energy Projects".
Professor Igor Pioro is a leading specialist in the field of nuclear energy, new generation reactors and thermal-hydraulic calculations, Founding Editor - Editor-in-Chief of the ASME Journal of Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Science and a fellow of ASME, CSME and EIC.
The lectures will address the following key questions:
- role of nuclear power in electricity generation in the world and selected countries;
- current status and future developments in nuclear power; thermal efficiency and capacity factors of various power plants;
- modern advanced power plants; current Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) and reactors such as PWRs, BWRs, PHWR, AGRs; LGRs; SFRs; GCRs;
- Generation-IV International Forum;
- Generation-IV Nuclear-Reactor Concepts such as VHTR, GFR, SFR, LFR, MSR, SCWR, and power plants;
- Small Modular Reactors (SMRs);
- direct and indirect power cycles (Brayton gas-turbine cycle, subcritical- and supercritical-pressure Rankine cycles, combined cycles);
- current and future reactor coolants and fluids / gases used in nuclear engineering;
- conventional and alternative nuclear fuels and their properties;
- safety of advanced nuclear reactors;
- hydrogen co-generation at future NPPs;
- specifics of thermophysical properties and forced-convection heat transfer at supercritical pressures.
Lectures will be held weekly on Wednesdays from 16:30 to 18:00. The first lecture is March 2. The working language is English.
