On February 16, at the site of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, a public discussion of the federal project "Advanced Engineering Schools" of the state program "Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation" took place. MEPhI has been designated as the project operator responsible for its expert, methodological and methodological support.

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, President of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Alexander Shokhin, Scientific Supervisor of the Priority 2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Program Andrey Volkov, Rector of MEPhI Vladimir Shevchenko, and representatives of more than 60 domestic high-tech companies-members of the RSPP and rectors of Russian universities.

In his speech, Vladimir Shevchenko noted: “The task of seriously improving the level of training of domestic engineering personnel is one of the most important tasks facing modern engineering and technical universities. I would like to thank the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Valery Falkov personally for the responsible assignment of MEPhI to act as the operator of this important project. We see our task not only in expert support of the competitive selection of the best engineering schools, but also in the subsequent analysis of the results of their work. It is necessary to create an environment for the exchange of best practices both between the universities participating in the project and between other universities. MEPhI has extensive experience in training engineering personnel for breakthrough projects, and we are confident that our university will cope with these tasks,” said the rector of MEPhI.

The Advanced Engineering Schools project will be implemented within the framework of the state program Scientific and Technological Development of the Russian Federation and will be included in the list of 42 strategic initiatives of the Government of the Russian Federation aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens. The goal of the project is to train qualified personnel for the highly productive, export-oriented sector of the country's economy.

By 2030, universities should create 30 engineering schools in partnership with high-tech companies. In addition, by the end of 2030, up to 10 thousand teachers and staff of advanced engineering schools will undergo professional retraining.

As Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko stated earlier, the new engineering personnel trained under the project will help Russia reach the eighth place among the best countries in terms of research and development by 2030.
