836 students will be able to comfortably accommodate in the new MEPhI dormitory at ul. Moskvorechye, 19/2, the university administration said.

The dormitory, which is currently under construction, is a modern 17-storey building with two entrances within a 10-minute walk from the university buildings, said Andrey Brandin, deputy head of the MEPhI Department of Economic Development. The building box has been erected, the roofing is underway, communications are being connected.

“Students will live in one-, two- and three-room apartments, two persons per room. Each apartment provides living rooms, a kitchen, an entrance hall, a corridor, a bathroom, a toilet, and a loggia. Bathrooms in one-room apartments are combined, and in two- and three-room apartments - separate. All apartments will be fully equipped for a comfortable life and preparation for classes. Students will find there not only furniture, but also household appliances - built-in hobs, ovens, washing machines and refrigerators,” he said.

Apartments for students will occupy the 2nd to the 17th floors of the building. On the ground floor there will be a security room, check-in rooms, a recreation room, public bathrooms, showers, a server room and coworking areas for residents. There are also planned two one-room apartments with a separate entrance, equipped for all the special needs for wheelchair users. Each entrance of the building will have two elevators - for 5 and 12 people.

“The new dormitory will have coworking spaces, an active sports area with a sports ground and outdoor exercise equipment, a bicycle parking and a parking lot. This hostel will continue to form a unified campus environment at MEPhI,” noted Andrey Brandin.

For the convenience of students, pedestrian paths and entrances for cars will be arranged around the building, trees will be planted and flower beds will be laid out. The conditions of barrier-free passage for disabled people, elderly people and parents with baby carriages will be met; special parking spaces will appear in the parking lots.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia with the participation of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.
