MEPhI takes the initiative in the creation of Consortium “ Laser research and technology for industrial, energy and medical applications”
21.01.2021

MEPhI initiated the creation of the Consortium "Laser Research and Technologies for Industrial, Energy and Medical Applications". Its main purpose is to coordinate activities and consolidate resources in implementing of breakthrough projects that ensure the scientific and technological development of the country.

On an equal basis with MEPhI, the Consortium included the following institutions and organizations:

  • Prokhorov General Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GPI RAS)
  • Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LPI RAS)
  • Russian Federal Nuclear Center – All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF)
  • Joint Stock Company State Research Center of the Russian Federation Troitsk Institute for Innovation and Fusion Research (JSC SSC RF TRINITY)
  • Vladimir State University named after Alexander and Nikolai Stoletovs (VLSU)
  • Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU)
  • Company LASSARD LLC

The industrial partner of the consortium is the IRE-Polyus Scientific and Technical Association (STA) LLC.

Cooperation of the Consortium members will carry out in the following main areas:

  • Fundamental research of physical processes in laser fields of a wide range of parameters, including:
    • extreme light fields and their interaction with matter, laser thermonuclear fusion and laboratory astrophysics;
    • quantum and photonic processes in metrology and information technology;
    • laser nanoengineering, ultrafast processes in nanoplasmonics, nanophotonics and nanosensorics;
    • laser-plasma sources of charged particles, X-ray and terahertz radiation;
    • laser biophotonics.
  • Development and application of laser technologies in a wide range of industrial and medical areas, including:
    • development of new types of solid-state fiber and semiconductor lasers, devices and systems based on them;
    • industrial lasers, laser complexes and laser technologies;
    • additive laser technologies including digital modeling of physical processes of creating new materials and their properties;
    • medical laser systems;
    • conducting research on the application of new laser technologies in a wide range of medical areas
  • Training of highly qualified research and engineering personnel for lasers, laser systems and technologies development.
  • Formation of a system of effective cooperation, which is designed to accelerate the introduction of advanced laser technologies in industry and high-tech medicine in the Russian Federation.
