MEPhI initiates the creation of three consortiums in Russia
13.01.2021

MEPhI initiated the creation of three consortiums: "Cosmic rays and elementary particles”, “Breakthrough nanoscale and nuclear medical technologies”, and the Consortium for the development of new generation nuclear energy technologies.

MEPhI Institute of Engineering Physics for Biomedicine consolidated several leading Russian institutions at once that successfully solving the problems of modern medicine. Consortium “Breakthrough nanoscale and nuclear medical technologies” will give additional impetus to the development of medical nanotechnology, high-tech, and nuclear medicine in Russia.

The consortium members are ready to respond to global challenges and propose new technologies for early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases. They will help prevent the spread of infectious diseases and epidemics and also will focus their efforts on increasing life expectancy without losing its quality.

At the same time, the range of tasks that they face is very wide. It includes training, retraining and certification of personnel for nuclear and high-tech medicine (including the creation of professional standards and educational programs). One of the tasks is the development of new medical technologies, equipment and systems as well as the development and providing of state support measures and regulations of the industry.

MEPhI initiated the creation of the Consortium "Cosmic rays and elementary particles” to form a common scientific space in the field of physics of cosmic rays and elementary particles and coordinate fundamental and applied research.

Cooperation of the Consortium members will be carried out in the following main areas:

  1. Studies of low-energy cosmic rays for early detection and forecasting of potentially dangerous processes and phenomena in the Earth's magnetosphere and atmosphere.
  2. Research of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays to study their origin and search for new physical processes or states of matter that show themselves at energies unreachable to modern accelerator experiments.
  3. Research of fundamental properties of matter in hadron-hadron, including nucleus-nucleus, interactions to search for new states of hadronic matter (including quark-gluon), as well as cases of new physics beyond the Standard Model.
  4. Development of new methods for processing large amounts of data, including neural networks and machine learning.

In order to create and spread the best practices and competitive centers of scientific knowledge, Consortium for development of new generation nuclear energy technologies on the territory of the Russian Federation has been created.

Cooperation of the Consortium members will be carried out in the following main areas:

  1. Research and development in the field of a two-component nuclear energy system with thermal and fast reactors in a closed nuclear fuel cycle.
  2. Research and development of new materials for promising IV-generation nuclear reactors and DEMO thermonuclear reactor.
  3. Study of international experience in using of full-scale computer engineering modeling codes for the development and engineering design of various products and objects.
  4. Database enhancements used for modeling physical processes in nuclear power plants.
  5. Application and development of digital economy tools.
  6. Methodological approaches to the development, verification and validation of computer programs (codes) and databases for full-scale computer engineering modeling of physical processes in nuclear facilities.
  7. Creating testbenches for verification and validation of codes for modeling physical processes.
