“At MEPhI I like the school environment and working culture”: interview with international student
10.12.2020

Student MEPhI from Nigeria Kamal Abdulraheem told us about his student life in Russia and his future plans.

I am originally from Nigeria. There I got a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees, and after that, I worked as an electrical engineer. I also graduated from the Advanced Control and Systems Engineering Master program at the University of Manchester. Now I am a postgraduate student at the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Engineering MEPhI. I will be a nuclear reactor control specialist.

I have read a lot about Moscow and Russia. Moscow is a well-developed city. When I arrived, I was surprised by how beautiful it is. I have already been living here for three years. For me, it is the lengthiest period of living abroad. Before I had been living in the UK for one year, two months — in Japan, one month — in the USA.

Learning Russian is not easy. Now I can speak confidently but with mistakes. All my lessons at university are in the Russian language. At the same time, I write all articles for international journals in English.

I like the school environment at MEPhI, working culture, how to get things done. Here very easy to set up a meeting. Everybody wants to help and support you. Here I met many interesting people.
