International conference on particle physics and astrophysics ICPPA takes place twice a year. In 2020 it was held for the fifth time. The conference was dedicated to the 90th birthday of the Russian physicist Boris Dolgoshein (1930-2010). The conference was online; recording of speeches is available on the conference's YouTube channel: 1st day, 2nd day, 3rd day, 4th day, 5th day. The schedule of reports by day you can find on the ICPPA-2020 site.
The conference participants told the organizers of the ICPPA-2020 about their reports and impressions of the past event.
Alexander Bolozdynya, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Nuclear Physics, MEPhI, Head of the RED-100 collaboration:
— The conference involves almost all relevant areas of research. Several reports focused on coherent elastic neutrino scattering on atomic nucleus. We as developers of the RED-100 detector are especially interested in it. For example, report of Yu.V. Efremenko and a report on new original results on argon nuclei by Alexander Kumpan were done very well. A very interesting report was on the project of a new electron-ion collider in Brookhaven (plenary report of the first day).
Yuri Efremenko, Ph.D., professor at the University of Tennessee, member of the COHERENT collaboration:
— It is hard to say what was most interesting. It was an extensive conference, during which there were many different reports. It was great! Due to the time difference and my other obligations, I was not able to attend all the presentations, but everything I have seen impressed me with the high standards of the material.
Paul D. Grannis, Research Professor and Distinguished Professor of Physics Emeritus, Department of Physics, State University of New York, Stony Brook NY, foreign member Russian Academy of Science:
— It was difficult for me to participate in the full program, partly due to the time difference, and the fact that the conference coincided with Snowmass. Therefore, I was only able to attend the afternoon plenary sessions on Monday and Friday. There were very high quality reports, which I really liked. Among all the important reports, I would like to highlight the report of A. Bolozdynya on Monday about the use of the phenomenon of electroluminescence in new detectors.
Masashi Yokoyama, professor at the University of Tokyo:
— Due to the time difference and other pressing matters in Tokyo, unfortunately, I was only able to attend a small part of the conference - part of the plenary sessions on Thursday and Friday. Professor Giunti's talk on light sterile neutrinos on Thursday was a very interesting and good overview of advances and news in this field. In addition, the report of Borexino CNO about the observation of neutrinos was interesting. It described in detail the experimental problems that had to be solved to obtain the result.
The next ICPPA conference will take place in 2022.
