The National Research Nuclear University Moscow Engineering Physics Institute has held a meeting on improving the training of highly qualified personnel.

The discussion was attended by representatives of MEPhI, SRC Kurchatov Institute, St. Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State University, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Far Eastern Federal University and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.

Currently, the draft of the Program to develop synchrotron and neutron research for 2019-2027 provides training and retraining of engineers and specialists in the development, design and construction of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources; scientific personnel for synchrotron research in order to obtain world-class results; organization and conduct of scientific conferences and schools in the field of synchrotron and neutron research for students and researchers under the age of 39 years.

The meeting participants discussed the prospects of expanding the number of universities that offer courses in synchrotron and neutron research, joint network training programs, the possibility to develop online training programs for users of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources. They also discussed the issues of improving the admission figures in the field of training specialists in the development, design and construction of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources. Discussant considered proposals to improve the training of scientific personnel for synchrotron and neutron research, the development and use of research infrastructure, including foreign sources of synchrotron and neutron radiation.

The meeting participants agreed to continue working together and to establish a working group to improve the training of specialists in the field of development, design and construction of synchrotron and neutron radiation sources, as well as scientific personnel for synchrotron research to obtain world-class results under the leadership of MEPhI, Kurchatov Institute and the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The working group will include representatives of universities and research centers.
