On November 20, MEPhI has hospitably opened its doors to foreign journalists. The press tour was organized jointly with the MIA "Rossiya segodnya" in order to increase the international recognition of the University.
Representatives of various foreign media: AskaNews news agency (Italy), Independent news agency (South Africa), EOS magazine (Belgium), Der Standard newspaper (Austria), VNA (Vietnam), BTA (Bulgaria), IANS (India) news agencies, got acquainted with the history of the University and modern research directions.
The first stage of the visit was the speech of the Deputy Director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Engineering G.V. Tikhomirov. MEPhI is one of the leading universities in the world in the field of nuclear education and all-Russian scientific and educational complex with branches in all regions of presence of Rosatom state corporation, the main partner and associate of the University. Georgy Valentinovich spoke about training programs for nuclear power in Russia and other countries, cooperation with nuclear educational networks such as ENEN and STAR-NET, and cooperation with foreign universities on the implementation of joint master's programs.
Then the journalists visited research centers and laboratories, where they got acquainted with unique research and developments, interviewed leading scientists and researchers.
In the laboratory of nano-bioengineering foreign guests were told about the development of new generation nanodiagnostic systems based on the principle of energy transfer, and their application in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment, as well as the study of processes occurring at the interface of nano- and biosystems, in tissues, cells and at the molecular level, in order to realize the long-term effects of nanosystems on human health.
In the scientific and educational center in the direction of "Nanotechnology" journalists learned how to produce modern nanoelectronics, got acquainted with the production and technological processes used in electronics, spintronics and photonics.
The head of the Interdepartmental laboratory of experimental nuclear physics A.I. Bolozdynya acquainted the visitors with the experimental setup RED-100, which is being prepared to be placed at the Kalinin NPP to study the effect of coherent neutrino scattering on heavy nuclei discovered in 2017. The experiment will investigate the coherent scattering of electron antineutrinos emitted by an energy nuclear reactor. The project is supported by the Russian Science Foundation (grant № 18-12-00135).
In the Laser center journalists looked at various samples, listened about the use of laser cutting and surfacing, watched laser welding.
On the second day of the press tour, the journalists went to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna), where they had excursions to the site of the future NICA accelerator and the superconducting magnets factory.
The visit of representatives of foreign media has become one of the most important events in the formation of openness of the University to the world community.
