MEPhI awards diplomas to foreign students

On February 19 MEPhI has awarded diplomas to foreign students. Diplomas of the famous University have been given to students from Turkey, Vietnam and Mongolia. They were trained in programs related to the construction and operation of nuclear power plants.

The ceremony was attended by the leadership of MEPhI, representatives of the embassies of Turkey, Vietnam, Mongolia, JSC Akkuyu Nuclear, State Corporation “Rosatom” and other honoured guests.

113 people took the stage, including 56 Turkish citizens, 56 Vietnamese citizens and 1 Mongolian citizen. Three Turkish students and a Mongolian student graduated from the University with honours.

The rector of MEPhI M.N. Strikhanov noted that, being applicants the guys had made the right choice in favour of studying in one of the leading Russian universities. Mikhail Nikolaevich congratulated the graduates on the holiday and expressed hope for further partnership: "We will continue to cooperate, and you, working in your countries, will continue to work together with MEPhI. I think that we will welcome many of you as professors of universities, as responsible employees of the nuclear industry of your countries."

On behalf of MEPhI foreign students a student from Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Hai said several words of gratitude. "First of all, we want to say "thank you" to the parents who worried and supported us. We also thank the teachers who taught us the Russian language, always helped and for 6.5 years of study became our mentors and friends. Thanks to this support, we are graduating as real experts. Studying at the University is only the beginning of a long way forward, and we are ready to proudly bear the title of a graduate of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI”.

It is worth noting that it was the second graduation of MEPhI’s students in the framework of the program for training personnel for the Akkuyu NPP, which is implemented in accordance with the Intergovernmental agreement signed between Turkey and Russia on May 12, 2010. At the moment, 35 graduates of MEPhI are already working in the Akkuyu Nuclear company. "Getting higher education is only the beginning of the professional path. The diploma gives you the opportunity to enter the high-tech industry in demand in the world. Only by constantly improving your professional level, you will be able to take a worthy place in the professional community of nuclear scientists", said M.V. Karaseva, HR-Director of JSC Akkuyu Nuclear.

In turn, the Director of educational programs of the Department of personnel management of the State Corporation "Rosatom" V.V. Karezin stressed that the greatest desire of the rector, teachers, and the state corporation was that graduates would able to be realized from a professional point of view. "I hope that the knowledge gained in the National Nesearch Nuclear University MEPhI will help you to achieve some success in life. And most importantly – do not forget and keep in touch with each other," V.V. Karezin summed up.

The young people were also welcomed by other honoured guests who wished them further success. During the graduation ceremony the guys from Zambia sang songs in Russian, and the girls from Vietnam presented a lively dance.

The University has become a big part of life for foreign students, and they have entered the history of the University. Graduates shared their impressions of the study and plans for the future.

Zyong Than Thang, Vietnam: "My teacher advised to enroll in Russian university to study nuclear energy. This is a completely new area in my country, so I want to develop and become successful in this industry. Here is cold, but beautiful autumn. I love to travel and learn English. During my stay in Russia I’ve visited Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, I liked Krasnoyarsk very much. I made friends from Russia. I plan to find a job in Vietnam or go to a nuclear power plant under construction in Bangladesh."

Yusuf Kylych, Turkey: "When I realized that MEPhI is one of the world's leading universities, I decided to come here because it is a good opportunity to become a professional of international level. Today is our graduation. We were given an excellent education, and I did not regret studied in Russia for 6,5 years. Now I have a profession that will allow me to work at the Akkuyu NPP”.

Oyunbileg Gurbazar, Mongolia: "I love to study Physics, so I decided to enrol at MEPhI. I studied with students from Vietnam and Turkey, and I liked the attitude of teachers to us. During my studies, I had an internship at the NPP in Volgodonsk. MEPhI gives a good education, I advise everyone."
