MEPhI Students Day
30.01.2019

Students Day in MEPhI is an ideal opportunity to cheer up during the session or to celebrate its end! Students Day was celebrated on January 25. The holiday has its roots in the XVIII century, when the Empress Elizabeth Petrovna signed a decree on the establishment of the Moscow University in 1755. "Tatyana's day" was originally celebrated as the birthday of the Moscow University, and later – in 2005, the 25th of January officially became the Russian Students Day by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation.

MEPhI celebration began with a solemn ceremony of awarding record books to the students of MEPhI Pre-University. The action took place in the theatre mansion of the Palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. On that day, class teachers said many kind and warm parting words to Lyceum students. Some high school students have he United State Exam near at hand, so teachers wished, basically, good luck in the exams. Then the guys went to the main entrance to the Royal Palace, where a theatrical performance was held, telling about how the Student day appeared in Russia. This was followed by a dance flash mob from students of the MEPhI Pre-University. Immediately after the spectacular dance Lyceum students went to choose the most interesting activities prepared by the University in Kolomenskoye.

Guests were invited to take part in various sports games and competitions: football, volleyball, basketball, hockey, rugby, arm wrestling, sambo and orienteering. Guests could also try their hand at tug of war and participate in the "Fun starts". There's more! Numerous comic competitions, horseback riding and other surprises were waiting for the guys. There was arranged a field kitchen, where everyone was treated to tea and sweets.

In the afternoon, the festival moved inside MEPhI, where a concert and entertainment program had been prepared in the reading room and on the first floor of the main building: a scientific show, the alley of friendship, intellectual contests, entertaining games and prize draws. As part of the celebration, MEPhI’s institutes conducted a quest for pupils, and the Department of military training held an interactive program.

Lyceum students and students of MEPhI told how they remember the holiday with horseback riding, slot machines, nitrogen ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn, treats from foreign students, as well as many prizes and gifts.

Maria Ignatova, 3 year, IFES:

- Student day is celebrated annually in MEPhI, but it seems to me that this year the level of the event has risen qualitatively. For example, this time there was a very cool concert program: not just background music, but people really perform, sing songs and everything like that. At the event, there were stands of student communities and each has its own feature, both literally and figuratively. Today there is a big lottery where you can win cool branded gifts. For this you need to get around all stands, participate in contests and as a result – to collect the chips, which can then be redeemed for cool gifts. It's great that so many people have come this year, because the session is just finishing, someone is going home, someone is preparing for exams and retakes, and here such a success!

Alexey Pashkov, 11th grade, Lyceum №1523:

- It’s my first time at such an event, the scale is impressive! It's nice to see such a friendly community. I saw MEPhI from a new angle! I used to think that MEPhI is only engaged in science, and there is no time for student life, but now I realized that this is wrong! The University takes into account the wishes of students and arrange for them such good events with numerous competitions, gifts, cotton candy, popcorn and vending machines! Now I'm even more excited to come here! By the way, MEPhI is the only University where I'm going to apply.

Maxim, 2 year of study, INPhE:

- Session is behind; I’ve come to Kolomenskoye to celebrate it! Now I stand in line for chess, I think it's a cool and unusual experience – to play chess when it’s -16 Celsius degrees on the street. I have already managed to play darts and shoot a crossbow, win a few sweets and to charge a good mood for a long time!

Oleg Chereda, 10th grade, Lyceum №1523:

– I really like the event: interesting contests, live music, food. Together with a friend, we collect special chips to exchange them for thermal mug to drink tea in the Lyceum. Students Day in MEPhI is a cool holiday that I will not forget soon!
