The world's first graduates of Nuclear Technology Management Program under the IAEA
26.09.2018

On September 25, the ceremony of awarding certificates of the IAEA and the International Nuclear Management Academy to graduates of the master's program "Nuclear Technology Management" accredited by the IAEA has been held in MEPhI. The ceremony was broadcasted by the IAEA (Vienna, Austria) in the teleconference mode, where it was attended by:

  • Dr. Huang Wei, Director of the IAEA Division of planning, information and knowledge management;
  • Dr. Oswald Glockler, head of the IAEA INMA Program;
  • Prof. John Roberts, University of Manchester, UK;
  • Prof. Andrey Kosilov, MEPhI, who led the broadcast from the Austrian side.

On the Russian side, the broadcast of the teleconference was conducted by the head of the master's program "Nuclear Technology Management", Professor of the Department № 72 MEPhI Vladimir Vitalievich Kharitonov.

Greeting to the graduates from the MEPhI rector M.N. Strikhanov was announced by the vice-rector V.V. Uzhva, who thanked the IAEA leadership for the long-term creative cooperation, without which the graduation of specialists in the management of the world nuclear industry could not be so successful. Such a program is implemented only at the University of Manchester (UK), whose representative also participated in the broadcast, but there hasn’t been a graduation in the UK yet. Thus, one and a half dozen graduates of MEPhI became the world's first "world-class nuclear managers".

Denis Sergeevich Naumov, adviser at the International cooperation department of Rosatom, announced congratulations from the leadership of the domestic nuclear industry. Then brief but congratulatory speeches were made by:

  • Alexander Valentinovich Putilov – Dean of the faculty of business informatics and management of complex systems, where masters were trained;
  • Nikolay Ivanovich Geraskin – Associate Professor of the Department of theoretical and experimental physics of nuclear reactors, the head of the project held under the MEPhI-IAEA agreement, member of the INMA Advisory Board;
  • Alexander Ivanovich Ageev – General Director of Institute for Economic Strategies of RAS, head of the Department № 72, which is graduate department under this program.

After the delivery of the IAEA certificates, there was a general photography of the graduates and representatives of MEPhI, which should preserve the memory of this outstanding episode of educational activities for a long time: the first graduation of management specialists prepared under the IAEA-approved program for the developing world nuclear market. To assess the scale of the event, it is enough to mention that Rosatom is currently constructing 34 nuclear power units in 11 foreign countries.
