On November 2, Russian rating agency Round University Ranking (RUR) has presented the results of the fifth RUR global ranking in Natural Sciences.

The National Research Nuclear University MEPhI has enetered the Top-100 ranking, taking the 52nd place.

In total, the Diamond League included three Russian universities. Apart from MEPhI, which improved its result by 63 positions, the list includes MIPT (69th place) and TSU (84th place).

The compilers of the rating noted that this year became a record one for Russia, as 41 domestic Universities took part in RUR Natural Sciences. For comparison, in 2017 only 31 Russian universities were included in the ranking. "Also, 2018 is a record year in terms of absolute positions. Three universities are in the Top-100 of the world ranking. Previously, none of Russian Universities was included in the first hundred in the natural sciences." Russian leading universities showed an increase in almost all indicators – 20-40% increase the number of publications in scientific periodicals, citations, the number of foreign teachers and students, the number of degrees of candidate and doctor of sciences, etc..

Commenting on the results of the rating, rector of MEPhI M.N. Strikhanov noted that the University is already in the Top-100 of the leading global rankings - QS Physics & Astronomy (4 years in a row), THE Physical Sciences (5 years in a row), U.S. News & World Report Physics. It is the entry into several leading global rankings that accurately shows the University's place in the world scientific and educational space. "The achieved results in the rankings are largely based on the MEPhI participation in the Project 5-100 and the transformation in science, education and internationalization, carrying out at the University. The influx of strong Russian and foreign students, leading foreign and domestic scientists in MEPhI, development of cooperation with a number of key Russian and foreign companies are reflected in the rating performance indicators ", said Mikhail Strikhanov.

The rankings analyzed 800 leading universities from 84 countries. As a result of the study, 625 universities from 71 countries were selected, which were included in the subject ranking in the natural sciences. The RUR rating is based on 20 separate indicators combined into four groups of measurement: quality of teaching and research, level of internationalization and financial stability.
