For several years the State Corporation Rosatom has been actively working to attract young personnel in the industry. In 2017, 1690 students worked at the facilities of the nuclear industry. Students of our University have already worked at FSUE Mayak in the Chelyabinsk region, Novovoronezh and Belarusian NPPs. Over the past few years, Rosatom annually announces a competition among the squadrons for the right to participate in the construction of nuclear power plants abroad.
To get the opportunity to participate in the competition, the candidates had to send their resumes and presentations "Why it should be me to become a member of the international project of the Rosatom State Corporation?". As a result, the commission selected 20 lucky people who went to the construction site of the Kudankulam NPP in India, Ruppur NPP in Bangladesh and Akkuyu NPP in Turkey this summer.
The largest group of "Lotus" went to the construction site of the nuclear power plant “Ruppur” in Bangladesh. It consists of 12 students from 8 regions of our country; among them were two students of MEPhI: Vyacheslav Stepanishchev and Olesya Nikitina.
"I went for self-determination, a fun unusual summer in a country with a different culture and with new people”
Vyacheslav jointed student construction groups in 2014. Starting in the Sleipnir group, he spent 3 summers at the construction site "Peaceful atom" at the Novovoronezh NPP-2. During that time he became the head of the press center of the headquarters of MEPhI construction groups, was awarded the badge "for the contribution to the development of student construction teams of the nuclear industry”.
"I get acquainted with an interesting culture and, of course, communicate with experienced specialists"
Olesya has gone from a frontline employee at the Creators of Energy group to the Commissioner of the headquarters of MEPhI student groups, also awarded a badge "for contribution to the development of student construction teams of the nuclear industry”. She participated in several student construction projects, including twice in the Rosatom Russian construction "Peaceful atom" in the city of Ozersk.
Work in Bangladesh
In contrast to the usual construction team, where students work with hands, at foreign construction sites they are attracted to the construction management. Basically, the guys work with documentation.
"The construction of NPP consists of a huge type of work, each of which has of production project," says Olesya Nikitina, distributed to the technical department. "In our department, these projects are checked, registered, archived and issued to the customer."
Vyacheslav Stepanishchev works in the department of equipment input control: “All equipment that comes to the station must pass the entrance inspection – verification of certificates and visual-measuring control. I really needed my English: almost every day I participate in negotiations with the customer – Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.”
In addition to working in the departments, students participate in field conferences at the nuclear power plant, meetings with the heads of departments, and on weekends have excursions to the sights of Bangladesh. According to the guys, that was a great opportunity to get a unique experience abroad, new knowledge and skills.
Students will stay at the construction site until the end of the summer; the results of the work will be announced at the Moscow office of JSC Atomstroyexport on August 30.
