On May 16, MEPhI has been visited by an outstanding scientist, a graduate of MEPhI, the scientific director of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, academician Yuri Tsolakovich Oganessian, whose name was given to the 118th discovered element of the Periodic table.
There was held a meeting with the University administration, leading scientists and professors of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Engineering, where they discussed a topical issue – improvement of engineering training of University graduates. Academician Y.T. Oganessian shared his memories of his studies at MEPhI and his practical skills, which helped him a lot in his research activities. It was decided to expand the traditional cooperation of MEPhI with JINR and the Dubna University in the field of engineering training of students.
At the end of the meeting the rector M.N. Strikhanov announced the decision to award the outstanding graduate of MEPhI academician Y.T. Oganessian with the recently established Order of Merit for MEPhI. Under the applause of audience Yuri Tsolakovich was awarded the order and certificate.
