MEPhI and University of Brazilian Federal University of Pernambuco University agrees to cooperate

On May 3, a Brazilian delegation consisting of the Minister-counselor of Gilda Motta Santos Neves, the first secretary of the Political Department of the Brazilian Embassy in Russia Carlos Jose Serapiao, rector of the University of Pernambuco Anisio Brasileiro de Freitas Dourado and Professor Anderson Gomes signed a protocol of intent with the governence of the National Nuclear Research University MEPhI.

The signed protocol of intent provides for a number of mutually beneficial activities, including the implementation of joint projects in the field of education and science, lectures, conferences and symposiums, exchange of scientific and methodological information, development of programs for the exchange of teaching and research staff and students.

MEPhI is actively involved in the implementation of the Project 5-100 to improve the competitiveness of Russian universities and in recent years has achieved significant results in the world, said the rector of MEPhI M.N. Strikhanov.

"Our University is interested in expanding cooperation with the leading universities of the BRICS countries, which, of course, includes the Federal University of Pernambuco from Recife in Brazil. We welcome the visit of the Brazilian delegation led by Mr. Anisio Brasileiro and the support of our cooperation from the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow. The main directions of future cooperation were identified – engineering education, IT-technologies, biomedicine, nanoelectronics and photonics. For example, the topic of joint scientific works in the field of bionanophotonics, which will include not only MEPhI and UFPE, but also the Buffalo University in the United States and the Shenzhen University in China," said Mikhail Nikolayevich.

Rector of the University of Pernambuco Anisio Brasileiro noted that this event showed true international solidarity and contributed to the strengthening of cooperation between countries.

During the visit, the Brazilian guests held working meetings with the management of research units of MEPhI, during which they discussed joint projects in the BRICS format, got acquainted with the main programs of training of specialists, and also made excursions to the leading laboratories of the University. Professor Anderson Gomez noted that this was his second visit to MEPhI, and he was impressed by the level of equipment of laboratories and research conducted in them.
