MEPhI enters TOP-100 of U.S. News & World Report Subject Ranking for the first time

U.S. News & World Report has published the next rating of the best universities in the world – U.S. News Best Global Universities 2018.

Fifteen Russian universities were included in the general rating. MEPhI occupied the first place among the participants of the Project 5-100, and took the second place after MSU (267 position) among Russian universities.

Twelve universities – participants of the Project 5-100 – were included in the U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings. For the first time MEPhI has entered Top-100 of Best Global Universities for Physics (90 position). It is worth noting that for three consecutive years the University is in the Top-100 of THE and QS rankings in “Physics”.

The universities of the Project 5-100 increase their presence in the subject rankings. If in 2016 they were only in one subject rating, in 2017 – four subjects and in 2018 – six such subject areas as "Physics", "Chemistry", "Engineering", "Mathematics", "Engineering science" and "Social (public) science and Healthcare".

The U.S. News Best Global Universities rating is characterized by rigid selection criteria and focuses mainly on academic research universities and global reputation.

This rating is published for more than 30 years for American universities. Its international edition was produced for the fourth time. Despite strict selection criteria, the universities – participants of the Project 5-100 – is actively increasing its presence and ensuring high positions in the ranking as serious players in the global education market.

In order to participate in the list of rated Universities, it must either be in the Top-250 in the results of the global reputational survey Clarivate Analytics, or has not less than 1500 publications in the Web of Science Core Collection database for the period 2011-2015.

The U.S. News Best Global Universities rating is based on 13 indicators, including publication activity, citation, global and regional research reputation. Data for calculation of indicators was taken from the InCites – an online tool for evaluating and comparing scientific organizations and research based on scientometric database Web of Science. Each University has a profile page on usnews.com where 13 indicators are listed.

Overall U.S. News Best Global Universities rating covers the Top-1250 universities in 74 countries. The published part of the rating consisted of 1,000 universities from 65 countries in 2017, 750 universities from 57 countries in 2016; 500 universities from 49 countries in the 2015.
