26.05.2017

During the visit of the Russian President V.V. Putin in late December 2016 a memorandum on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy was signed in Japan. The document was signed by the Director General of the Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation A. Likhachev, Minister of Economy of Industry and Trade H.Seco and Minister of Education, Science and Technology H. Matsuno.

In February 2017, a framework agreement was signed between MEPhI and the largest Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric in the development of nationwide Russian-Japanese agreements.

On May 24, the first meeting of the International Russian-Japanese Seminar was held, which is expected to be regular: for the 2017-2018 academic year, six sessions of the seminar are planned. At the first meeting of the seminar, Dr. Suiti Kobasi, chief engineer of the information and network systems division of Mitsubishi Electric delivered a speech with a program report.

The report by S.Kobasi gave a detailed overview of the activities of Mitsubishi Electric and identified segments where Russian-Japanese cooperation is possible and effective. Along with the traditional nuclear power management areas for nuclear power units, security and the creation of turbines for nuclear power generation, a number of new directions were emphasized. Much attention in the report was paid to nuclear medicine - the development of Mitsubishi Electric in the field of proton therapy.

Among new directions it is necessary to note "the Internet of things" and designing of "smart" power networks, creation of many other systems on the basis of artificial intelligence. The general direction of development is the digital economy and the formation of the so-called "Society 5.0" – a large-scale long-term strategy for reforming Japanese society, developed by the government of Japan in response to the current challenges of our time.

Employees and students of MEPhI asked a large number of questions, to which S.Kobasi gave exhaustive answers. After the completion of the report, the Japanese delegation visited the Nanocentre of MEPhI and held a discussion with the seminar participants.
