International youth scientific school-conference “Modern problems of physics and technologies” dedicated to MEPhI 75th anniversary and academician N.G.Basov’s 95th anniversary
02.05.2017

From April, 17 to 22 traditional VI International youth scientific school-conference “Modern problems of physics and technologies” has been held in MEPhI. The organisers of the conference are the Basov Higher school of physisists, MEPhI Institute of Engineering Physics for Biomedicine, and Lebedev Institute of the RAS.

This year the school-conference has been dedicated to two significant events: MEPhI 75th anniversary and 95th anniversary of the RAS academician, Nobel prize winner, MEPhI graduate, founder of the Higher school of physisists (previously Special faculty of physics) N.G. Basov.

Each year the conference is spreading, the geography of participants is widening, the level of represented works is rising. In 2017 more than 300 representatives from different parts of our country, CIS countries and non-CIS countries took part in the School-conference. As a result, 13 countries and more than 40 Russian cities were represented.

The program of the school-conference included 4 plenary meetings, 2 stand, and 3 oral youth sessions, at which participants got an opportunity to attend lectures of leading world scientists and make reports about results of their works by main topics of the School:

  •   “Laser physics, physics of solid body, optics and plasma physics”
  •   “Engineering physical technologies for biomedicine”
  •   “Nuclear physics and technologies, physics of particles, astrophysics and cosmophysics”
  •   “IT, intellectual systems, cybersecurity”
  •   “Electronics, automatics, spintronics, nanotechnologies”.

Lecturers of the school-conference are world-famous people: RAS academicians Krokhin O.N. (MEPhI), Sharkov B.Yu. (MEPhI), Kulchin Yu.N. (MEPhI), Yuris Purans (University of Latvia, MEPhI), Igor Meglinskiy (University of Oulu, Finland, MEPhI), Giovanni Barbero (Polytechnic university of Turin, Italy, MEPhI), Kabashin A.V. (University of Marcel, France, MEPhI), Nazarov M.M. (Kurchatov Institute), Lysenko Vladimir (National institute of applied sciences, Lyon, France, MEPhI), Parfenov A.V. (Physical Optics Corporation, the USA), Anton Foytik (Czeck technical university in Prague, Czeck republic, MEPhI) etc.

Annually a contest of reports of young scientists, postgraduates and students is held as a part of the School-conference. In 2017 more than 200 oral and stand reports were made. Following the results of the conference, 15 winners among oral and stand reports were shortlisted, 12 reports were recommended for publication in the journal ‘Short reports on physics of FIAN’ and 34 works – for publication in journal «IOP: Conference Series». Also a report of MEPhI student Mikhail Rudanov «Rolling shutter elimination» was marked as the most original one. The winners got certificates for the right of publishing a scientific article following contest results.

A contest of school project works was introduced into conference this year, 32 schoolchildren with their supervisors took part in it. A school stand session, which was on April, 20, was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Children represented interesting works, which they have been making for more than a year. Among represented works there were “Junior” winners. The absolute winner of the contest was 11th form pupil Olga Golovan with her work “Beyond the borders of possibilities. By thought power”, the aim of which was creating of neuro-computer interface, aimed for research of human biorhythms.

The VI International youth scientific school-conference “Modern problems of physics and technologies” has again gathered students, postgraduates, young and well-known scientists in our university, giving all the participants a unique possibility to exchange experience and information with their colleagues, a possibility to make new contacts in scientific sphere, find future research supervisors, like-minded people and, probably, a future workplace. The school-conference is changing with modern tendencies in science and education and detects talented youth.
