MEPhI students become winners of three All-Russian student Olympiads

MEPhI has once again received the right to host the all-Russian stage of the All-Russian Student Olympiad (ASO), a prestigious and significant educational event that attracts the best students of the country, on its site.

In accordance with the competitive allocation of the Ministry of education and Science of the Russian Federation in 2017, six Olympiads from the list of ASO are held in our university. On April, 22-23, MEPhI hospitably hosted students of Russian universities to participate in the Olympiads in the areas: “Applied Informatics and cybersecurity”; "Automation, electronics, nanostructured electronics"; "Technologies of biophysics and nuclear medicine".

More than 300 students from 47 Russian universities took part in the Olympiads. There were representatives of largest Russian universities, such as the Far Eastern Federal University, the Moscow Aviation Institute, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University), Kazan Federal University, Academy of Federal Security Guard Service of the Russian Federation, North-Caucasian Federal University, Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, Ural Federal University n.a. the first President of Russia Boris Yeltsin, Samara National Research University n.a. Academician S.P.Korolev, Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod, etc. In addition to the Moscow site of MEPhI, its branches also participated in the Olympiad.

Many universities sent teams of three or more participants to the contest; following the results of the competition, the organizing committees of the Olympiads decided to separately mark such universities with diplomas for active participation.

27 foreign students from Turkey, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, and the Republic of Belarus also took part in the Olympiads.

With welcoming words, the representatives of MEPhI administration, the heads of strategic academic units ICIS, INTEL, PhysBio, addressed the participants of the Olympiad. They became organizers of the Olympiads, staff of scientific departments and departments, as well as heads of leading employers. In their congratulations to the winners and prize-winners, they proudly noted the high level of knowledge demonstrated by the students, and they expressed calm for the future of Russian science.

According to the director of the MEPhI Institute of Nanoengineering in electronics, spintronics and photonics N.I. Kargin, the past Olympiad showed the increased interest of young people in electronics and nanoelectronics. "Holding the Olympics and creating a good experimental base in universities will give an additional impetus to the development of domestic instruments and equipment in Russia," Nikolai Ivanovich said.

In her speech, the director of the MEPhI Institute of Engineering Physics and Biomedicine I.N. Zavestovskaya noted: "Biophysics and nuclear medicine are the strengths of our university. We try to develop this knowledge further. In the future, we need to ensure that medicine, physics, biology, chemistry and IT technologies are together. Multidisciplinary directions should be developed, and all possibilities for this are in MEPhI."

Director of the MEPhI Institute of Cyber Intelligence Systems S.Yu. Misyurin noted the high competitive spirit that prevailed during the Olympiads, as well as the increased level of participants’ training in intellectual competitions.

Representatives of employers and sponsors who were present at the procedure of awarding participants of the Olympiads in their speeches noted that potential employers are already ready to make winners interesting career proposals. Noting the growing interest of students to participate in various specialized Olympiads, they wished them to find an interesting work that would contribute to self-realization and self-development.

According to the terms of the competition, the winners, prize-winners and laureates of the ASO have preferences when applying for Master’s degree of any Russian university. Speaking on behalf of the united organizing committee of MEPhI Olympiads, Alexander Maslennikov informed the plots of intellectual contests that the winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiads are admitted to the Master's degree program of the university without entrance examinations, and the laureates and winners in the team competitions get additional points when applying.
