MEPhI is among leaders in implementation of programs to improve competitiveness

On March 17-18, 2017, a meeting of the Council on Competitiveness Enhancement of Leading Universities of the Russian Federation has been held among the world's leading research and educational centers, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister O.Yu. Golodets.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation O.Yu. Vasilyeva, President, Chairman of the Board of Sberbank of Russia G.O. Gref and foreign members of the Council.

At the meeting, 21 leading universities, selected in 2013 and 2015 to provide state support to the leading universities of the Russian Federation in order to increase their competitiveness among the world's leading scientific and educational centers, presented the results of work during 2016, the “road maps” for 2017 and scientific projects.

Following the results of the work of the Council, the following decisions were made.

MEPhI, National Research University “Higher School of Economics”, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University) are among the leaders in the implementation of competitiveness improvement programs, whose work is estimated at more than 7 points. The leading group of universities also includes the National Research Technological University "MISiS", the National Research Tomsk State University, the St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.

Less than 7 points were awarded to the following participating universities: Far Eastern Federal University; Kazan (Privolzhsky) Federal University; National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University; Novosibirsk National Research University; I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University; St. Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great; Tyumen State University; Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia BN. Yeltsin.

Such universities as the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, N.I. Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, Samara National Research University, St. Petersburg State Electrotechnical University "LETI", Siberian Federal University, South Ural State University (National Research University) received less than 4 points.

As a result of the meeting of the Council, recommendations are being prepared for universities, which will help to increase their competitiveness.

At the autumn meeting the Council plans to hear road maps of universities for 2018-2020 and take final decisions on the amount of subsidies allocated to universities for the next stage.
