From 23 to 26 February 2017 Petrozavodsk State University has hosted the IV international festival of choral music named after George Teratsuyants. The festival is held in memory of the director, who headed the Academic choir of the Petrozavodsk State University from 1962 to 2007. “He seemed to be a vortex that was always ready to explode deeds and ideas,” said the Minister of culture of the Republic of Karelia A.N. Lesonen about him in his welcoming speech.

This year the festival was attended by 21 teams from five countries – Russia, Spain, Germany, Poland and Taiwan. About 600 participants came to the stage, fighting for the victory in the competition, presenting and receiving music.

The organizers prepared a rich program, which in addition to the usual rehearsals and festival performances included morning workshops by eminent conductors: honoured art worker of the Russian Federation, honored worker of culture of the Russian Federation Boris Abalian and Klaus Brecht, organizer and conductor of the project C.H.O.I.R. (Germany).

The concert was held in the Concert hall of the Rautio Music College. Friendly Petrozavodsk audience gave a warm welcome to all teams and listened to competition work of the MEPhI Chamber choir “CARPE DIEM” with bated breath.

The culmination of the music festival was a gala concert held in the Music theatre of the Republic of Karelia. At the conclusion of the concert the combined choir of all festival participants performed the program with the Symphony orchestra of the Karelian State Philharmonic.

The chamber choir “CARPE DIEM” presented a work, which participated in the competition of best performance of a piece written by the composer from one of the Northern Europe countries (Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) or of the Republic of Karelia. At the end of the festival the chamber choir “CARPE DIEM” became the winner and was awarded with the laureate diploma of the festival “For excellence”.
