The ChemPhysChem publishes online a paper from LNBE
21.02.2017

As we wrote earlier, the ChemPhysChem, a top-rated international journal, accepted a joint study of the Laboratory of Nano-Bioengineering (LNBE) of NRNU MEPhI and the Laboratory of Bionanotechnology of the Shumakov Federal Research Center of Transplantology and Artificial Organs, Moscow, Russia (Regina S. Bilan, Victor A. Krivenkov, Mikhail A. Berestovoy, Anton E. Efimov, Igor I. Agapov, Pavel S. Samokhvalov, Igor Nabiev, and Alyona Sukhanova. Engineering of optically encoded microbeads with FRET-free spatially separated quantum dot layers for multiplexed assays). Now, the paper has been published online.

This study is another step in LNBE's efforts towards designing next-generation suspension systems based on polymer microbeads optically encoded with quantum dots (QDs) designed for using in multiplexed diagnosis. The multiple optical codes necessary for this purpose are obtained by applying several layers of QDs of different colors, separated with organic polyelectrolyte layers, onto the microbeads.

The authors have studied a whole number of factors determining the microbead optical code and developed the concept of designing these diagnostic systems with a practically unlimited set of codes. In a longer run, this will make it possible to engineer systems for simultaneous quick diagnosis of all diseases for which biological markers have been (or will be) found; at present, these are mostly a number of cancers and autoimmune disorders.

It should be noted that the scope of the ChemPhysChem, like many other top-rated journals, now becomes increasingly multidisciplinary, publishing, in particular, papers on applied research and developments in medical diagnostics.
