On February, 13 diploma awarding to the first group of foreign students from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who conducted training in specialization “Nuclear stations: design, exploitation, and engineering”, took place in MEPhI. The event, very important for the university on its 75th anniversary, consisted of two parts: opening of the International friendship hall at MEPhI Obninsk site and the ceremony of diploma awarding in the Cultural centre.

MEPhI administration, employees of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, representatives of the Kaluga region administration, Rosatom state corporation, members of the State Duma of the RF took part in the solemn event.

The Councilor Ambassador Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguen Chung Ha in his welcoming speech congratulated compatriots on the holiday and expressed gratitude in behalf of the Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Son to MEPhI professors and teachers “for difficult, but successful work”.

28 Vietnamese students, who successfully graduated from university, 5 of them with honours, were awarded this evening. And this happened despite not knowing the language 6 years ago. The work on the diploma projects under the supervision of leading MEPhI specialists continued a little less than a year, and each work, apart from a review from the supervisor, needed an official review of the major experts and researchers from enterprises SC "Rosatom".

Many students were awarded certificates for their achievements in science and sport. Graduate Nguyen Chi was awarded the medal for special success in the field of education. He was honored to personally pass the torch to next generations of Vietnamese students. Along with diplomas Vietnamese graduates received documents on practical training on the basis of Novovoronezh NPP.

"Twenty-eight graduates is a serious capital,” said the Vice-Rector of MEPhI O.V. Nagornov. “These guys have shown excellent results during their studies. They participated not only in the university competitions, but also in various Russian competitions, often winning prizes. I wish the graduates a happy future life. They received fundamental education, and it will allow them to find work in the scientific and industrial organizations."

The first issue of foreign students coincided with the opening of the Hall of international friendship. Former student Nguyen Chi presented the first plate in the room "Students from the Republic of Vietnam". "I hope today we have started a good tradition,” said PhD, Vice-Rector of MEPhI Tatyana Leonova. “Next year we will see a plate, dedicated to the issue of Turkish students. Adhering to the "Rosatom" strategy, we also go to the foreign "markets". The guys are interested, and they are ready to go along the chosen path."

Young people mastered the profession for six years. Nguyen Chi shared his impressions from the study: "It was very interesting to study in MEPhI, understand the intricacies of the technology cycle. Of course, not all Vietnamese students succeeded at their studies, there were difficulties with the delivery of the sessions, but with the help of the teachers in the end we all have successfully graduated from university. Most of us will work in the energy sector in Vietnam, some of us decided to stay in Moscow and continue their education in graduate school. And I wish to the international students, who today are just beginning their education in MEPhI, first of all, study well the Russian language. And, secondly, to show interest in their chosen profession, it's very important."

In the end of the evening students from Russia and Zambia organized a concert for the graduates.
