XX conference “Plasma interaction with surface” with international participation conducted in MEPhI
02.02.2017

On January, 26-27 an annual conference “Plasma interaction with surface” was held in MEPhI, which has become the twentieth forum, dedicated to physical problems of plasma interaction with surface in facilities of controlled thermonuclear synthesis and other technological plasma facilities. The organizer of the conference is the department of plasma physics of MEPhI institute of laser and plasma technologies.

The event gathered at the University site leading scientists, not only from Russia, but also other countries, who came to present the latest results of their research on topics: the capture and removal of tritium in materials of fusion devices; erosion and modification of materials; radiation damage to materials; modeling of ions’ and plasma interaction with surface and of processes in the plasma peripheral tokamak; instruments for the study of plasma-surface interaction; physical fundamentals of plasma surface treatment technology.

This year, over 70 people attended the conference, 28 oral papers were presented. Presentations were made by leading scientists of "SRC RF TRINITY", Institute of Space Research, Research Center "Kurchatov Institute", Lebedev Physics Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, RAS, NC "ITER-Center", OAO "Krasnaya Zvezda", SPbPU, as well as specialists from foreign research centers and universities from Japan, Germany, Finland. More than a half of the reports were presented by students, PhD students, young scientists and specialists.

Among the speakers there were such famous experts as S.V. Mirnov (SSC RF TRINITY), V.Yu. Sergeev (SPbPU), L.N. Khimchenko (NRC "Kurchatov Institute").

The peculiarity of the conference was the presentation of a significant number of works, executed by the international team of researchers, including those with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students of the department of plasma physics, who carried out their studies in foreign scientific centers.

The best reports were selected by the program committee for the publication in the international Journal of Physics: Conference Series (JPCS). Guests of our university have noted the wide range of topics and a high level of organization of the conference in MEPhI.
