Centre of Arctic research to be opened in MEPhI
20.01.2017

MEPhI together with the project “Kartesh” polar expedition” is planning to create the Centre of Arctic research on the basis of MEPhI. “Till now, Arctic research has not been the main topic for the university, but we will be happy to apply our developments in Arctics,” said the Head of MEPhI competitiveness enhancement program Mariya Ganchenkova.

As the Head of the project “Kartesh” polar expedition” Sergey Bedash noted, nowadays Russia lacks a Centre of Arctic research with a serious engineering-technical approach. In connection with it devices, with which marine researchers work, are mainly of foreign production. According to him, MEPhI could solve the task of technical supply for the Russian science.

Moreover, fundamental research, held in Arctic, can be conducted in MEPhI. During “Kartesh” expedition in 2017 it is planned to conduct research of space radiation in Arctic, using detectors of MEPhI scientific facility “NEVOD” experimental complex”.

Project “Kartesh” polar expedition” and MEPhI on December, 1, 2016 signed an agreement about joint development of research in Arctic. Now the contest of scientific works “MEPhI-Arctic”, in which university students and employees can take part, is conducted in MEPhI. The winners will get a possibility to conduct research in real conditions of Arctic zone on board of the scientific-research ship “Kartesh” in 2017.
