From December, 6 to 9 MEPhI hosted an international commission that examined the results of the development and implementation of the program INMA MEPhI.
MEPhI was the first university to sign in 2015 an agreement on the establishment of the International Academy of Nuclear Management under the IAEA and together with the University of Manchester is involved in the pilot implementation of the Academy master's program.
In MEPhI the work on participation in the IAEA's initiative on the establishment of the Academy of standards and the master's program was conducted in the framework of the program of competitiveness enhancement. On the part of MEPhI Department of Theoretical and Experimental Physics of Nuclear Reactors (Department 5), Department 72 and the Institute of International Relations take part in the works. The program was launched in September of this year as a result of the joint work of these departments and the IAEA.
The IAEA Board of the Agency included the Head of the nuclear knowledge section of the Nuclear power Department, John de Grosbois, and his colleague Hiroshi Hiroya and three independent experts from the UK's leading universities (University of Manchester), the United States, (TAMU, Texas) and South Africa (North-West University ).
Representatives of the Department 5 and 72 prepared and presented to the Commission all necessary materials to ground the program’s compliance with the IAEA standards.
In closing remarks, the Head of the delegation from the Agency John de Grosbois noted the high level of MEPhI program readiness and its full compliance with the IAEA standards. He MEPhI staff informed about the list of universities, which prepare their programs, including Tokyo Institute of Technology, Cambridge and Xinhua University etc. and invited MEPhI experts to participate in the evaluation of programs of these universities.
For reference: In September, 2015 an agreement was signed between MEPhI and the IAEA, according to which MEPhI became a member of the International Academy of Nuclear Management (INMA), with its goal of increasing specialists’ competences in the nuclear technology management by launching international master's degree programs in leading universities around the world. The program provides extensive cooperation between universities - members, which provides for joint implementation of individual courses, exchange of students and teachers, mutual verification mission and student forums.
