On November, 15 IV Christmas readings were held, dedicated to the topic “1917-2017: lessons of the century”. The readings were held under the chairing of Metropolitan Arseniy, Head of the Central and Southern Vicariates of Moscow. This event has been held for several years in MEPhI.
Welcoming speeches were given by Metropolitan Arseniy and MEPhI rector Mikhail Strikhanov.
Famous scientists, clergy, social workers, teachers gave reports at the Readings.
The Head of the Department of church history of Moscow orthodox spiritual academy, Professor, PhD in Theology Alexey Svetozarskiy made a report on topic “Church and October revolution”.
The Head of Nikolo-Ugresh orthodox spiritual seminary, PhD in Theology, abbot Ioann (Rubin) in his report focused on the problem of incorporation in educational institutions of courses on honouring the memory of Russian Church New Martyrs and Confessors.
Andrey Prityko, the Head of the Scientific-practical centre of specialized medical help for children n.a. V.F. Voino-Yasenetskiy, Doctor of Medicine, Honoured Doctor of the RF, Professor, gave a report, dedicated to archbishop Luka, who was a surgeon and saint.
Deputy Head of the Theology Department, MEPhI Associate Professor, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, PhD in Theology, hieromonch Rodion (Larionov) made a report “Theology in the environment of academic disciplines in Russia: potential in heritage and prospects of development”.
Other reports were given by Konstantin Sopelnikov, Irina Medvedeva, Sviatoslav Rybas, Alexander Ageev, and Fedor Hvatov.
In their reports participants of the readings touched upon different aspects of society consolidation before threats, especially in education.
