On November, 14 winners of the All-Russian engineering contest in nanotechnology for students and post-graduate students were announced (VIK.Nano-2016). A special prize from “Prepreg-SKM” company was given to MEPhI student Sergey Nomoev.

All in all, 54 applications were sent to the contest from 19 Russian cities. The jury, which included representatives of ROSNANO, technoparks, technological companies, considered the projects and conducted telephone interviews with participants. As the result, 18 people were shortlisted for the final stage, MEPhI became the leader judging by the number of people in final – there were 3 of our students to compete in this stage.

They included Stanislav Shostachenko (research of influence of graphene-containing heatsink on static and frequency charcteristics of transistors on the basis of gallium nitride); Sergey Nomoev (development of an antenna for terahertz radiation, which is a safe alternative for X-Ray methods of control), Dmitriy Bykovskiy (improvement of exploitation characteristics of cooling radiators). As the jury members pointed out, all projects, which have been accepted to the final, were of high level.

Department №67 Master’s degree student Sergey Namoev: “For several days we were getting ready for the presentation of our projects, went to lectures and participated in a business game “Build a start-up. Sell the start-up”, where the main aim was to sell your business. I played the organiser’s role. One of the winners was an entrepreneur in my team.

In “Technospark” we represented our projects. I developed an antenna for terahertz radiation, which is a safe alternative for X-Ray methods of control. It is planned to be used in safety scanning systems (to detect explosives in airports).

I didn’t become the winner, but was awarded a certificated for a workshop in an educational centre on work with composite materials, which is not bad.”
