International symposium on ion mobility spectrometry and mass-spectrometry (ISIMMS) as a part of 2nd International conference “Innovations in mass-spectrometry: devices and methods” (INNMS2016) took place in Moscow on November, 7-10. Such large international event as INNMS2016 was for the first time organized by 3 universities: MEPhI, Skoltech and MIPT. At the conference organisers and participants have highlighted the importance of scientific school of MEPhI Professor Alexander Sysoev and works of his students for world mass-spectrometry.
MEPhI organized and conducted the “International symposium on ion mobility spectrometry and mass-spectrometry”. Groups of departments №10, №27 and №81 as a part of SAE INTEL organized and conducted sections “Ion Mobility Spectrometry in Bioanalytical Applications”, “Basics of division by mobiity”, “Laser desorption in Ion Mobility Spectrometry”, and an exhibition “New devices and methods in Ion Mobility Spectrometry”. Department №10 “Molecular physics” was a coordinator of the event, including a scientific-research international laboratory of nanodisperse and ion-cluster systems of INTEL Institute.
All in all, 100 people took part in the work of the international symposium on ion mobility spectrometry and mass-spectrometry, including about 40 foreign scientists.
18 foreign scientists from 8 countries of the world made lectures (the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Austria, Germany, Finland, Slovakia), including leading universities like University of Wisconsin – Madison, the USA (Professor Lingjun Li), The Ohio State University, the USA (Professor Vicki Wysocki), University of Birmingham, the UK (Professor Helen Cooper), University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China (Professor Ivan Chu), University of Manchester, the UK (Dr. Bruno Belina and Dr. Ewa Jurneczko).
Many leading scientists discussed hybrid methods on the basis of ion mobility spectrometry and mass-spectrometry. In Russia the most significant works in this field belong to the group of MEPhI Associate Professor Doctor of Physics and Mathematics Alexey Sysoev.
The final day of the symposium was conducted in MEPhI. It included a technical tour to the SAE INTEL laboratories of departments №10, №27 and №81and nanocenter.
At the seminar there were reports of:
A.A.Makarov (Thermo Electron, Germany)
“Past, present and future of Orbitrap mass-spectrometry”.
Mikhail Belov (Spectroglyph LLC, USA)
“Industrial small business in high-tech in the USA: challenges and opportunities”.
The important part of the symposium was a conversation with our foreign guests as a part of roundtable “Prospects of development of international cooperation in projects on ion mobility spectrometry and mass-spectrometry with the participation of MEPhI scientists”. Participants highlighted the importance of works in this sphere and possibility of scientific internships of post-graduate students and students.
