The Academic Council meeting, conducted in the university on October, 21, 2016, started from the awarding ceremony. Rector M.N.Strikhanov gave a diploma of “Honorary MEPhI Doctor” to a world famous scientist, honoured professor of chemistry, physics, electrotechnics and medicine of the State University of New York Paras Nath Prasad.

Paras Nath Prasad was a co-chair of an important event at the university – first international symposium “Engineering-physical technologies of biomedicine”, held in honour of Engineering-physical institute of biomedicine opening, which is aimed at training high-quality personnel in physics, which has a purpose of solving tasks of biomedicine, including nuclear medicine, materials sciences, laser physics and biophotonics.

During the Symposium, which gathered many famous biophysicists, Paras Nath Prasad represented modern achievements, problems and possibilities of nanomedicine and neurophotonics, told about his unique scientific research.

While awarding the guest, M.N.Strikhanov thanked the scientist for “scientific inspiration, knowledge, which will help young scientists get high results, and Doctors of science see the problem wider” and expressed hope for the development of scientific cooperation.

Paras Nath Prasad thanked for the honour, paid to him, and claimed that in photon and radiation therapy MEPhI can really make a great contribution and he will be glad to cooperate with university leading scientists.

Dr. Paras N. Prasad is a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Physics, Medicine and Electrical Engineering, the highest rank in the New York State University system. He also holds the Samuel P. Capen Chair at the University at Buffalo and is the Executive Director of the multidisciplinary Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics. Dr. Prasad has published over 700 scientific papers, co-edited six books, and co-authored a monograph (with D.J. Williams). Dr. Prasad also holds a number of patents.

The Academic Council continued with RAS academician Valeriy Tishkov’s awarding with diploma “MEPhI honorary doctor” and a gown for organization and conducting of “Academic readings”.

Academician V.A.Tishkov gave a lecture on topic “About the usefulness of humanitarian education” as a part of the meeting.

Then university employees were awarded for significant scientific achievements.
