On September, 16-17 a selection module for candidates to participate in the second series of strategic sessions on university development was conducted in MEPhI. Educational, research, innovative and management policy of the university were actualized following the results of the first series of strategic sessions, conducted together with experts of Skolkovo Moscow School of management. The modern structure of the university has been formed – five strategic academic units (institutes), which united different aspects of university activity, have been created.
MEPhI transformation is not over, the second stage of strategic sessions will end up with changes, which will allow the university reach the new level of development and take a worthy position among leading world universities.
Administration employees, supervisors and scientists of new institutes, teachers and post-graduate students took part in the second selection module – all in all, 105 people.
MEPhI first Pro-rector Oleg Nagornov stressed the importance of continuation of fruitful joint work with experts of Skolkovo Moscow School of management.
After splitting into 24 teams MEPhI employees conducted computer simulation on working out of the strategy of virtual university development, which should lead to university’s entrance to THE International Ranking top-100.
Each team during 6 game rounds, symbolizing 6 years in real time, made management solutions on the basis of analysis of inner and outer policy of the suggested university.
As the result of complicated 2-day work some teams managed to maximally approach the purpose, set by developers – 103rd position of the university in THE International Ranking has become the maximum result of the game simulator.

- Our team learnt to cooperate well, each of participants was responsible for a particular aspect. This was a great management experience.
Engineer of MEPhI Institute of functional nuclear electronics Alexey Bakun:
- After team discussion we made a series of short-term and long-term strategic decisions on university development for an upcoming year. We became the second in our league.
Head of Educational programs direction of the Centre of Skolkovo Moscow School of management Olga Nazaikinskaia:
- The most important task was participants’ self-determination, the second – participants’ selection, and the third – content and technological training to the series of strategic sessions.
Following the results of the second stage of the selection module, a group of 60 people has been formed, which will be working in strategic sessions on the key questions of the university development. The first strategic session of the second stage will be held on September, 23-24, 2016.
