Every 2 years a seminar on problems of nuclear reactors physics is conducted in the beginning of September on the basis of “Volga” camp with the support of Rosatom and Nuclear Society of Russia. This year the seminar, called simply “Volga” in academic communities of reactor physicists, has become international: “International conference of young specialists, scientists and post-graduate students on physics of nuclear reactors”. The conference organising committee Chairperson was MEPhI rector Strikhanov M.N., his co-chairs – representatives from 5 countries (Сaruso G., professor, Sapienza University of Rome, Hascik J., professor, Technical University of Bratislava, Janardhanan N.K., assistant professor, Jawaharlala Nehru University, Pershukov V.A., deputy director general, Rosatom, Tikhomirov G.V., dean of Physical-technical faculty, NRNU MEPhI, Tikhomirov V.V., professor, Belarusian State University).
From September, 5 to 9, 2016 participants, representing scientific organisations and universities from 8 countries of the world (Russia, Germany, Norway, Finland, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Vietnam, Jordan) made interesting reports on different topics of the seminar, the main of which were: peculiarities of fast-neutron reactors, calculation support of acting and designed nuclear reactors, test tasks, codes and databases.
More than 100 people from 22 organisations have taken part in the conference. More than 70 reports have been made during the conference. The leaders in the number of reports were Russian organisations: MEPhI, NRC “Kurchatov Institute”, JSC “VNIIAES”, JSC “SSC RF- IPPE”, NR TPU (Tomsk), and JIHT, RAS.
During the conference different sports occasions and a roundtable on problems of education in Russia were held. The majority of participants, according to the survey, were pleased with the conference and would like to take part in the next one in 2018.
