On September, 2 opening of the unique MEPhI laboratory for pharmacy specialists took place in Obninsk, Kaluga region – a line of places of the Centre for practical training of pharmaceutical industry employees has been created. Governor of Kaluga region Anatoliy Artamonov, MEPhI rector Mikhail Strikhanov, members of the regional government, supervisors of regional pharmaceutical enterprises took place in the opening ceremony.
The project has been created to solve the problem of human resourcing in enterprises – participants of the pilot innovative territory cluster “Pharmaceutics, biotechnologies and biomedicine” of Kaluga region and is the first and the only project of that kind in Russia.
The opening of the centre will allow conduct the training of future specialists in pharmaceutical industry in conditions, which are most closely resembling real industrial process. The laboratory will allow students conduct scientific research in university walls, and pharmacists will be able to create innovative pharmaceuticals in aseptic conditions in compliance with international requirements.
According to the Governor of Kaluga region Anatoliy Artamonov, the opening of this laboratory will create certain basis for potential investors.
MEPhI rector Mikhail Strikhanov stressed the uniqueness of the project: “With the help of the latest methodologies a clear room for forming medicines has been created. It is important that it is a close line – fr om raw material arrival to the production and testing of a ready product. But I would like to highlight that this is not a closed module. Specialists, who will turn to industry straightaway, will be trained there. And this is only the first move which has been done to develop pharmaceutical direction as a part of our engineering physical institute of biomedicine. We will develop other key directions of this institute in future, for example, nuclear medicine and nanotechnologies in biomedicine.”
The project of the clean room is unique for Russia. According to the Head of the Obninsk Institute Natalia Ayrapetova, she hasn’t seen such centres in Europe, wh ere rooms by GMP standards can be used for studying. “Master’s degree, post-graduate and Senior Bachelor’s students will study there. Moreover, employees of 26 pharmaceutical companies, localizing their production in Kaluga region, will be able to conduct training and advanced training there.”
This day the Governor of Kaluga region Anatoliy Artamonov and MEPhI rector Mikhail Strikhanov congratulated the students on the start of the new academic year.
“It is prestigious to study in MEPhI, the medical faculty works successfully there,” said Anatoliy Artamonov. “Moreover, all the nuclear industry counts on specialists from your university.”
“Our university is always in top-5 of Russian universities. Last year we were also among top-40 of world universities in physical sciences, according to the international ranking THE. I hope you will make your contribution into our activity,” rector said to the new generation of MEPhI students.
