On August, 29, 2016 an annual meeting of MEPhI teaching personnel, dedicated to the start of the academic year, was held in “Moskvorechie” Creativity centre.
By tradition MEPhI workers honoured the memory of colleagues, who passed away last year. Then, after a minute’s silence, they started the discussion of earthy questions.
The audience was welcomed by MEPhI rector M.N. Strikhanov, who mentioned the abundance of events in the past academic year. Then honourary guests took the floor.
Irina Potekhina, Deputy plenipotentiary of the President of the RF in the Central federal district, stressed modern tasks of training for engineering nobles, saving and development of traditions of Russian technical school and relevance of work with technically gifted children, the work, into which our university is involved.
Alexey Chelyshev, prefect of Moscow Southern administrative district, paid attention to the high demand of high technology in a wide range of life activities, including the sphere of city economy, which requires new solutions in energy saving, telecommunications, construction of new houses, management system.
Mikhail Kuksov, Deputy Head of Administrative secretariat of Moscow Patriarchate, thanked university for fruitful work with youth in patriotic and moral education.
Vladimir Glotov, Deputy Head of Federal service on financial monitoring, highlighted university’s contribution in training of specialized personnel and outlined prospects of intergovernmental development in the process of counteracting to money-laundering, financial terrorism and weapons of mass destruction.
Sergey Vlasov, the Head of the Department of development of R&D and production basis of “Rosatom” state corporation nuclear weapons complex, reminded of strategic tasks of the state corporation. The first one is connected with significant expansion of presence at international markets, including services in nuclear generation. The second direction is expansion, considering diversification of new products and their quicker output on market. The third part is lowering of all kinds of losses, enlargening of labour productivity.
Valeriy Tishkov, academician-secretary of the Department of historical and philological sciences of the RAS, research supervisor of the Institute of ethnology and anthropology of the RAS:
- I want to thank you for the opportunity to organize Academic humanitarian readings in your university. An engineer, especially a nuclear scientist, should be broad-minded, know the country, world, be patriotic.
Vladimir Maltsev, the Head of the Department of industrial policy of Eurasian Economic Commission:
- I appreciate my being at the meeting and really want new generation of MEPhI enrollees and students to feel sure about the right choice.
Sergey Hudiakov, the Head of Moscow State Historical, Architectural, Art and Landscape Museum-Reserve:
- Interaction between MEPhI and our museum gives an opportunity not only to join efforts, but reach new quality of education. The process of moral and patriotic education can become more interesting and effective.
Father Oleg, Senior priest of MEPhI house church, PhD of Phys., Math.Sc. and Theology:
- Only well-rounded graduates will be able to make a contribution to science and society development, specializing not only in physics and mathematics.
Among main events of the year there were mentioned the opening of Academic readings, university’s further entering in international collaborations, in particular, HADES, leadership in nomination “The most Highly Cited Research Organisation” according to Thomson Reuters in 2015, acknowledgement of MEPhI graduate Mikhail Eremets as one of the outstanding scientists of 2015 (Nature journal), joint development of neutrino detector of new generation RED-100.
According to the “Social navigator” project, MEPhI is in the highest demand among engineering universities. MEPhI Pre-university is on the 3rd place among Russian schools, according to RAEX.
MEPhI is also in the “first league” of 5/100 project, after the fierce competition.
We are in top-40 of world universities in THE ranking in Physical sciences. In the U.S.News &world report ranking on physics subject MEPhI is the first among Russian universities and 127th in the world.
Rector also spoke about 5 strategic academic units, created for MEPhI further development. He mentioned the results of admission campaign of 2016 and the growth of the average score of the state exam (the 5th place in the country).
In the conclusion M.N.Strikhanov said, that the next year will be held under the aegis of university’s 75th anniversary.
