Ranking agency Round University Ranking (RUR) has for the first time published a research performance ranking among world leading universities.
MEPhI has become the first among Russian universities and the 177th in the overall ranking, earning itself a place in the golden league of leading world universities.
The second place among Russian education leaders was taken by Novosibirsk State University (351), the third – by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (394). Lomonosov Moscow State University is the fourth in the RF and the 401st in the world.
The ranking is based on the data of Thomson Reuters agency, which is one of the most reputable sources of information on higher education establishments. RUR Research Performance Ranking evaluates research efficiency, quality, and official recognition of research, conducted in the university.
The ranking methodology.
The Research Performance Ranking evaluates universities-participants by following parametres:
1. Normalised citation – evaluates the citation of university scientific publications in comparison with the average level in the world. For example, whether scientists are cited as 150 % of the average level in the world or as 75 %.
2. Ratio of the citation quantity of articles per academic and research staff to the number of articles.
3. Ratio of the quantity of articles to the number of academic and research staff.
4. International university reputation in research sphere.
5. The number of publications of university employees, written in international co-authorship (at least one foreign colleague should be a co-author).
All in all, 691 universities have entered the ranking, 23 of which are Russian.
