MEPhI to train specialists of supervisory bodies in nuclear energetics of the People's Republic of Bangladesh

On August, 5 MEPhI welcomed the representative delegation of the People's Republic of Bangladesh headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary Dr. S. M. Saiful Hoque. The delegation included a representative of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury. The officials have been accompanied by FSUE VO “Safety” representatives: Head of the Development Evgeniy Kapralov and Head on Educational Work Yuriy Kapralov.

The main aim of the visit was the acquaintance of BAERA representatives with MEPhI possibilities in the field of training of specialists of supervisory bodies in nuclear energetics.

The guests were welcomed by the First Vice-Rector Oleg Nagornov, who made a presentation about MEPhI, which was dedicated to the university’s history, current position in the Russian educational system, the system of education of Russian and foreign students in nuclear technology and corresponding infrastructure. He also described concrete educational programs, by which the training of specialists for Russian supervisory bodies is conducted.

In the following discussion representatives of FSUE VO “Safety”, members of Bangladesh delegation, representatives of MEPhI Institute for Nuclear Physics and technologies, and employees of the Department of International cooperation took part.

The Ambassador Dr. S. M. Saiful Hoque has impressed the event participants by his wonderful knowledge of Russian, saying: “I got my education in the Soviet Union, and was the Chairperson of the Community at some period of time. I am proud to be the Ambassador. At the moment we have several ways of cooperation – negotiations with Rostechnadzor or with you directly.”

Among the expressed ideas there was a suggestion to send trained specialists with higher education in physics, mechanics or electrotechnics to continue studying by MEPhI Master’s degree programs. According to the delegates’ words, “we need to realize that it is a long way until the first nuclear reactor is launched; everything should be thoroughly considered. We are ready to hire people from Russia and other countries or send our specialists to be trained in your country.”

The participants of the meeting were satisfied with the conducted discussion, calling it fruitful and useful. The Chairperson of the delegation, Prof. Dr. Naiyyum Choudhury, claimed: “Thanks to the today’s event we have learnt about different problems, which we can face in the process of nuclear energy development in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, and have discussed the fields of interaction with Russia and in particular with MEPhI.”

Following the results of the meeting, it has been decided to start the threelateral agreement of supervisory bodies’ representatives of Russia, Bangladesh and MEPhI with an aim of forming of the educational plan and professional training of BAERA specialists on the basis of MEPhI.
