In the end of July, 2016 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities has published another ranking, made by research group Cybermetrics Lab. The ranking makes the estimation of how this or that university is represented in the Internet.
In accordance with the published data MEPhI is on the third place among Russian universities, participating in the 5-100 Project.
As the experts of the 5-100 Project, aimed at the raising of competitiveness of Russian universities in world rankings, claim that the number of universities, participating in the 5-100 Project, has grown. While in July, 2015 the top-1000 included only 3 universities, in January, 2016 there were 4 of them, in July, 2016 – 5: HSE (721st place), NSU (722), MEPhI (901), ITMO (905), MIPT (921). Apart from these universities the ranking contains 16 other universities of the 5-100 Project.
Webometrics Ranking is published twice a year, in the end of January and in the end of July. All in all, 25000 universities of the world are ranged there. The ranking is a global indicator of universities’ research activity in the Internet. Its methodology is based on four indicators of different value: visibility – the number of references from external sources; presence – the number of web-pages, indexed by Google; supremacy – citation of scientific publications on the basis of analytical data of SCImago research group, and openness or transparency – indicator, using information from university profiles in Google Scholar citations.
