The International information group “Interfax” has presented the rating results of research activities of Russian universities, prepared in the framework of the National rating of universities-2016.

The National Research Nuclear University “MEPhI” confidently holds the second place in “Research” with 914 points out of 1000 possible. In addition to the Nuclear University the top 5 also includes: Lomonosov Moscow State University (1st place), MIPT (3rd), NSU (4th) and TSU (5th place).

In total 238 Russian universities are in the national ranking of universities in research area; with that most of the top 20 are taken by universities – participants of the Program 5-100.

As reported on the website of the special project of the “Interfax” Group, the method for universities’ evaluation and rating has undergone small changes but in general retained a traditional orientation. The rating was formed based on the resultant of eight partial indicators used to assess the level of development of high performance computing and mathematical modelling, publication activity of the Academic staff according to the systems Scopus and the Russian science citation index over a five year period (2011-2015), citation of articles, published in the same period in a peer-reviewed by Scopus journals, funding of R&D by University in 2015.
