On July, 9th, 2016 67 MEPhI graduates who had military training by new educational system in MEPhI were the first in Russia to be awarded military cards together with university diplomas and assigned military ranks “common soldier” and “sergeant”.
Currently 104 students have successfully completed military training for common soldiers and sergeants, 67 of which have been awarded military cards. The other 37 students will be ranked “common soldiers” and “sergeants” after their graduation.
MEPhI Senior division trains specialists for military units and forces of the 12th Chief Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Many of MEPhI graduates conduct military service doing different jobs in research departments of the 12th Chief Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The Head of the 12th Chief Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the RF Yuriy Sych said: “Hundreds of your university’s graduates conduct military service in the 12th Chief Directorate, among which there are talented scientists, qualified specialists in safe exploitation of military equipment. New possibilities in the development of our cooperation are connected with the realisation of requirements of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the President of the Russian Federation on the improvement of the system of military training of university students.”
The transformations are aimed at forming of quality reserve force, giving students the right to choose the way of execution of the Constitutional liabilities on the defense of the Homeland.
The system is well adapted both for the tasks of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and for the students’ needs. It allows armed forces enhance personnel training on complex military occupational specialties in demand, and provide for the necessary quantity of human resources.
The basis of the new system is made by university senior divisions, and educational and military units, attracted for conducting of military meetings.
The realization of the military training program of soldiers and sergeants has started on September, 1, 2016. Until that time only reserve officers have been trained at senior divisions.
The total number of students was more than 22000 people.
The training is conducted for 1,5 - 2,5 year at university senior divisions depending on the military registration specialization. A lot of attention is given to the practical part – modern military equipment.
By the result of the final exam students who have successfully completed the training will be enrolled for the reserve.
According to the experts and student communities, the new system is more effective and motivating because it is conducted together with studying at university and at the same time allows train quality specialists for armed forces.
