On June, 20th the Residence of the Ambassador of the French Republic to the Russian Federation has held a reception dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Russian-French cooperation in the field of education and science.
During the reception an agreement was signed about the creation of the first in the history of Russian-French cooperation joint post-graduate program. The participants of the agreement were MEPhI, Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, University of Savoie and Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble). The program is aimed at joint training of highest qualification specialists in the sphere of fundamental physics, including cosmology, physics of elementary particles, theoretical physics and mathematical modelling.
In the ceremony of the agreement signing there were following participants: French Ambassador to Russia J.-M. Riper, Counselor for Science under the Embassy of France A. Michel, first Pro-rector of MEPhI O.V. Nagornov, MEPhI Professor S.V. Popruzhenko and employee of MEPhI Department of International cooperation O.S. Demkina, Professor of the University of Savoie P. Chardonnet, Acting Head of Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics A.I. Aptekarev and many other representatives of Russian and French universities and research centres.

MEPhI signs agreement about participation in Russian-French joint post-graduate program
The agreement gives a unique possibility for post-graduate students of the universities-participants, and in the future for post-graduate students of other Russian and French universities to spend not less than half a year at the university-partner, conducting research under the supervision of leading Russian and French experts in the field of fundamental physics. Post-graduate students, who have successfully completed their curriculum plan and defended their thesis, will get two diplomas: a French PhD and a Russian PhD. Moreover, in Russia and in France there will be held annual school n.a. L. D. Landau and P.A.M. Dirac for post-graduate students and young scientists alternately as a part of the program.
The participants of the event have discussed the prospects of Russian-French scientific-technical cooperation in the field of fundamental physics. On June, 28th the agreement will be signed from the French side by the President of the University of Savoie D. Varashin and President of the Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble) L. Dumasy in the Joseph Fourier University (Grenoble).
During the reception there was also the awarding ceremony for Russian scientists, post-graduate students and Master’s degree students – awardees of different scholarship programs of the French Embassy and its partners, which offer more than 200 long-term scholarships this year.
