MEPhI alumni go to unique scientific Arctic expedition
21.06.2016

A comprehensive Arctic expedition-2016 has been started on the ship “Kartesh”. On the 19th of June 2016 in 20:50 (Moscow time), the ship was unmoored from the dock in Murmansk. Among the organizers and participants of the project are MEPhI alumni: the leader of the expedition – Sergey Bedash (Department № 1) and Olga Boyko (Department № 24).

"Kartesh" — a modern and comfortable ship, specializing in carrying out long-range underwater expeditions in the Northern seas

Before the start the expedition completed preparations of the ship: technical re-equipment of the ship and crewing arrangements. They installed a new satellite antenna that enables the expedition members to enjoy unlimited Internet at any point of the Arctic.

Participants placed the icon of the patron of sailors and travellers – St. Nicholas in the main saloon of “Kartesh”, which earlier was consecrated in Naryan-Mar.

The flag of MEPhI also went to the voyage, where it will be planted on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

The first stop is scheduled to be in the Rynda area, where the last year the expedition set a memorial in honor of the centenary of the return of expeditions by Sedov and Brusilov. Participants plan to upgrade the complex and to raise the new Russian tricolor there. Then the ship will go in the White sea, where in the settlement of Chupa there will be a meeting with captain Yan Stelmakh, who devoted most of his life for working in “Kartesh”.

We wish the participants of the expedition to fulfill their goals! We wish them courage, perseverance, new experiences and amazing discoveries. Fair winds and a following sea!
