RIA Novosti: MEPhI becomes first University in Russia to launch master's program in management of nuclear technology

MOSCOW, April 15 – RIA Novosti. A master's programme in management of nuclear technology, which meets standards of the IAEA, is going to be launched in Russia for the first time. From the 1st of September MEPhI will start training students on this program: admission has already been announced, according to the rules it will be finished in August.

Earlier the rector of MEPhI Mikhail Strikhanov and the Director of the Center for engineering and physical education Nikolay Geraskin have signed an agreement with the IAEA, according to which MEPhI has become an official member of the International Nuclear Management Academy (INMA).

As Deputy Director General of the IAEA, the graduate of MEPhI Mikhail Chudakov reported, educational framework for the academy has already been developed. “IAEA experts visit the universities that make application to join the Academy of nuclear knowledge”, he said. According to him, it is necessary to “produce highly skilled professionals in a uniform format with a certain set of competences in the field of nuclear technologies”.

First this process was joined by the University of Manchester (UK). MEPhI has become the second in the world. According to the Deputy head of the IAEA, the University of Tokyo will become the next university that will open this program.

According to Mikhail Chudakov, “maintaining a high level of safety in the nuclear industry depends on competent decision making and effective processes management that are in the spotlight of INMA”.
