MEPhI confirms its world leadership in physics in QS subject ranking

On March 22 the sixth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject has been released, which contains 42 disciplines, making it the largest in the world ranking of its kind. Universities were assessed according four criteria: opinion of the academic community, of employers, citation index and h-index, which reflects the efficiency of scientific work.

Lomonosov Moscow State University has become the leader in the number of positions in “tops-100”, which is in the first hundred of 12 subject areas. The University received the highest place – 17th – in “Linguistics”.

On the second place is St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), which is in the top 100 of the two rankings, with the best result in the discipline “Mineral & mining engineering” (26th place).

The National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and Novosibirsk State University have reserved a seat in the 51-100 group in the specialty “Physics and astronomy”. MEPhI is also included in the 301-400 group in “Mathematics”.

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation has emphasized the success of these two universities who are members of a government Project 5-100 to increase competitiveness of Russian universities on the world stage.

“Participants of the Project 5-100 MEPhI and NSU have reaffirmed its leadership in the field of physics, which, I will recall, in December last year have entered into top-100 in Times Higher Education as well. More and more universities participating in the Project are among the ranked in certain disciplines”, said the Deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Science Alexander Povalko, as is quoted by the Press service of the Ministry.

At all the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016 includes 8 Russian universities.
