Miniature safety devices for electric protection of blocks of track detectors made at Department № 27 “Micro- and nanoelectronics” have been successfully used in the international experiment “ATLAS” of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
Technical unit of the Department № 27 has manufactured more than 60.000 safety devices which are lithium niobate plates (LiNbO3) with photolithographically put conducting titanium bands. Titanium track explodes after pulse heating which corresponds to contingency loading providing for high speed of an emergency circuit break (units of ms), and high electrical resistance after a break (dozens of GΩ). Hold-off voltage in “burnt” condition is not less than 2 kV. The dimensions of such safety devices are 5,8 x 3,8 x 2 mm.
Nowadays Department “Micro- and nanoelectronics” suggests works on creation of miniature high-voltage fast-acting electric safety devices capable of effective protection of input circuits of ground and board electronic units from the impact of natural or technogenic powerful electromagnetic pulses (EMP). This scientific technical task will require experience gained by the Department specialists after working out high-voltage fast-acting safety devices which have already been used in the international experiment “ATLAS”.
