On March, 3 High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, KEK, Japan has held an international scientific seminar AGTaX (Advance Generation of THz and X-ray). Department № 67 “Condensed Matter Physics” employees, group “Radiation of relativistic particles” have taken part in preparations and organization of the seminar.
British scientists have participated in the seminar (University of Oxford, Royal Holloway University of London), along with Japanese ones (КЕК). MEPhI was one of Russian universities represented there. The seminar was dedicated to discussion of different schemes for generating terahertz radiation with the use of compact electron accelerators. The reports were made by groups collaborating during the research: from University of Oxford, from MEPhI and experimental group working at LUCX reactor in KEK.
An overview report on terahertz research was made by University of Oxford Professor George Doucas, and 2 particular tasks were covered by post-graduate students H. Harrisson and H. Zhang.
Department № 67 Assistant Daria Sergeeva dedicated her report to theoretical description of the effect of dramatic growth of electromagnetic radiation as a result of coherent mechanism of generating using microbunched clusters at laser-like reactors (Free Electron Laser, FEL) – mostly for X-ray radiation, or chains of clusters at compact electron accelerators – this calculation was specially done for LUCX parameters.
One more report made in collaboration with MEPhI, was dedicated to experimental research fulfilled in February, 2016 at microtron in Tomsk for observing conical effect in Smith–Purcell radiation, the analytical description of which was first published in work by D.Yu. Sergeeva, A.A. Tishchenko, M.N. Strikhanov, Conical diffraction effect in optical and x-ray Smith-Purcell radiation, Phys. Rev. ST AB 18, 052801 (2015). Preliminary experimental results confirm the presence of the effect.
Professor Potylitsyn, principal research worker in MEPhI, made a report about coherence of clusters turned in movement direction.
A report on behalf of experimental group was done by Alexandr Aryshev. The experiment at LUCX reactor with capillary dielectric structure has shown clear peaks of radiation in terahertz range. This structure had been offered earlier in MEPhI (e.g., A.A. Ponomarenko, M.I. Ryazanov, M.N. Strikhanov, A.A. Tishchenko, Terahertz Radiation from Electrons Moving through a Waveguide with Variable Radius, based on Smith-Purcell and Cherenkov Mechanisms, Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B 309, 223 (2013) and a series of following publications) by a group of employees and post-graduate students of Department № 67 and was made in Japan in the end of 2015.
