A series of evaluation events for senior pupils, Centres of Excellence Open days, has been held in MEPhI. The center of “Nanostructured electronics” was open to the public on January, 7th; Center for “Atomic Energy”, “Nuclear Systems and materials” Centre, “Physics of nonequilibrium atomic systems and composites” Centre - on January, 24th. Another Open day was held on February, 7th when Center of “Basic research and particle physics”, Center for “Plasma laser researches and technologies”, “Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics” Centre, and “Living systems research” Centre have demonstrated their work.
O.N.Krokhin, the RSA academician, has highlighted the physics role in the modern world and the advantages of studying in MEPhI in his speech before the audience. The Head of the Educational Department I.V.Tsvetkov has discussed the educational process and its peculiarities. This year the structure of MEPhI has been transformed. Institutions and Centres of Excellence which integrate science and education have replaced faculties. During the first 2.5 years students can change their educational program as well as their speciality.
The Head of the Olympiads Office of the Training Department S.E. Muraviev has pointed out that the contests motivate schoolchildren. This year 18000 schoolchildren have attended qualifying events for the Rosatom contest, 2500 out of which will take part in the final part in February-March, 2016. S.Muraviev has also mentioned engineering contest with 5000 participants and the “Junior” contest.
