"The most important thing is that after many years, looking back, you’ll say – I made the right choice, I chose the right university!" with such words the Dean of the MEPhI Faculty of Physics and Technology A.V. Berestov began the Open Day. Schoolchildren, students of specialized lyceums, and their parents came to the University to get acquainted with the educational programs of the University.
The advantage of studying at the Faculty of Physics and Technology is the opportunity being a student to form around yourself or join a team of young leaders – engineers of the future, while gaining the experience and working on their development. Received fundamental training in physics and mathematics, students master the widest range of disciplines, which allows to obtain unique competences of a highly qualified engineer-physicist who is able to create a world of the future where everyone wants to live.
"Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was", A.V. Berestov quoted scientist Theodore von Karman, as a confirmation of the importance of engineering science in the history of mankind.
The high quality of engineering education in MEPhI is confirmed by the fact that the University is recognized as the most popular engineering University in Russia for the third year in a row.
As A.Berestov emphasized, the main principle of MEPhI is an inseparable unity of education, science and production: science is impossible without education, competitive products are based on the results of scientific research, and the development of complex engineering systems is based on fundamental and practical knowledge.
Directions of training, which are implemented at the Fcaulty, can be found on its website. Training of specialists is carried out in close cooperation with the key employer of MEPhI graduates – Rosatom. For example, employees of the leading enterprise of the state corporation, All-Russia Research Institute of Automatics named after N.L. Dukhov (VNIIA) take an active part in the development of joint educational programs and their implementation.
“Rosatom State corporation attaches great importance to personnel training. Starting from the second year students of the Faculty solve real practical projects for the tasks of Rosatom,” continued the Director of scientific development of JSC "Science and innovation", head of Department of Instrument and Installation Design G.A. Sarychev. He told the guests of the day about the prospects that the education received at the Faculty of Physics and Technology will open for them.
“Rosatom is not only a leader in the construction of nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad. Today, it is tasked to become a technological leader in the digitalization of the Russian economy,” said G.A. Sarychev. "In addition, this year we began to deal with unconventional nuclear power, for example, renewable energy sources, wind power stations, creation of printers of metal powders and products based on additive technologies, construction of low-power nuclear power stations for the Arctic zone, laser technologies, artificial intelligence and robotics."
In conclusion, Gennady Alexandrovich noted that graduates of MEPhI, Rosatom's reference University, are in high demand at the enterprises of the state corporation, and the share of FPT graduates is very high.
Of course, the theory is good, but to see developments of the Faculty is much more interesting. After the official part of the Open DoorsDay, students were able to see firsthand the high quality of engineering training of students – young scientists showed their developments and achievements. The engines for space satellites and aircraft, ionizing radiation spectrometers and other interesting developments aroused great interest among the children.
Students were able to ask questions directly to heads of Ddepartments, members of the Faculty and communicate with students.
