From 25 to 27 of November the Moscow has hosted a regional seminar on ICT in education statistics. The event was organized by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE), and MEPhI. The seminar was attended by representatives of state educational authorities from 18 countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as employees of the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS, National Research University “Higher School of Economics”, Federal Institute of Education Development and the Russian Federal State Statistics Service.
Before the beginning the UIS assistant programme specialist Peter Wallet delivered greetings from the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Statistics Silvia Montoya.
The seminar was devoted to such issues as: educational policy and curricula, ICT infrastructure in primary and secondary schools, assessment of pupils in educational programmes using ICT, professional development of teachers for the use of ICT in education. Data provided by participants will be used to create a system of internationally comparable indicators in the field of educational policy that can be used by countries to determine national priorities, develop strategies of education informatization and to monitor their progress at the national level.
“The theme of the workshop is very topical for our country and the world in general. The use of ICT in education helps to prepare pupils for life in modern information society, to introduce new, previously inaccessible educational technologies, but what is most importantly – contribute to equal opportunities for education of people in remote regions and people with special needs. I am convinced that informatization of education is necessary but possible only with a high level of state support”, said the Chairman of the Commission on the Development of Science and Education of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, the head of the MEPhI Department “Pedagogy and methods for natural-science education” Lubov Dukhanina.
