On October 16 the General Director of the State Corporation for Atomic Energy “Rosatom” Sergey Kirienko has made a report at the strategic session of MEPhI, where he outlined the most urgent tasks in the field of education.

The first is qualitative preparation of specialists, who create products sold by the Corporation. The next task is high-quality education of those who sell products of Rosatom. “These people must be able to work in the external market”, said Sergei Kiriyenko, supporting this thesis with some examples from current foreign trade practices of the Corporation.

Another not less important task of MEPhI, as a recruitment centre of the nuclear industry, is further promotion of the University’s global reputation. “Services for the preparation of qualified personnel are part of the package of a nuclear power station. Without it we won’t sell the NPP”, said Sergei Kiriyenko, noting that the implementation of this task depends not only on the ranking position of the University, but also on reputation of faculty members, their involvement as experts in activities of the IAEA and other international organizations, and, of course, active participation in research work.

The audience was enthusiastic about the presentation of S.V. Kiriyenko and his colleagues: the first Deputy Director General – Director of the Rosatom Unit for development and international business K.B. Komarov, HR Director T.A. Terentieva, Director of educational programs V.V. Karezin. It was a key, but not the only event of the two-day strategic session, the main purpose of which was the actualization of MEPhI educational policy.

To this end one of the leading domestic experts, Professor of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO A.E. Volkov was invited to the session, and its active participants were competitively selected among young scientists, engineers and lecturers, as well as representatives of the University administration headed by the rector M.N. Strikhanov.

Then the audience was divided into six thematic groups in order to analyze educational activities of MEPhI in the framework of the thematic focus groups. As a result of long and hard work participants discussed proposed steps to transform educational activities of MEPhI and its working plan for 2015-2020.

The session was the first of four planned events. The following topics for sessional work will be research policy, innovation policy and management system of MEPhI.
